Artist's Note: "There's a story behind this image. Years ago, I gave a boyfriend of mine (his name was Michael) my favorite stuffed unicorn named Orion. Even after my romantic relationship with Michael ended, we remained friends (at times it was a struggle), and, thru it all, he kept the unicorn. As it turns out, I did not find out until many years later that he still had it...which inspired me to create this piece in honor of that. Sadly, this story does not have a happy ending. Michael passed away on October 2, 2003 from complications caused by a malignant brain tumor. The last time that I ever saw him, I brought him a print of this painting to keep with him in his hospital room. This piece has since become a very special symbol of our bond and friendship."
